সালাম ১ম ব্যক্তিঃ আসসালামু আলাইকুম ওয়াহ রাহমাহতুল্লাহি ওয়াহ বারাকাতু
অর্থঃ আপনার উপর আল্লাহ্‌ এর শান্তি, রাহমত এবং আশীর্বাদ বর্ষিত হোক।

সালামের উত্তরে অপর ব্যক্তিঃ ওয়াহ আলাইকুম আসসালাম ওয়াহ রাহমাতুল্লাহি ওয়াহ বারাকাতু
অর্থঃ আপনার উপরেও আল্লাহ্‌ এর শান্তি, রাহমত এবং আশীর্বাদ বর্ষিত হোক।

তবে সংক্ষিপ্ত আকারেও সালাম জানান যায়। যেমনঃ

 সালাম ১ম ব্যক্তিঃ আসসালামু আলাইকুম
অর্থঃ আপনার উপর আল্লাহ্‌ এর শান্তি বর্ষিত হোক
 সালামের উত্তরে অপর ব্যক্তিঃ ওয়াহ আলাইকুম আসসালাম
 অর্থঃ আপনার উপরেও আল্লাহ্‌ এর শান্তি বর্ষিত হোক।
